The Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security was held in Belgrade on 12–13 March 2024.
At the meeting, contributions prepared by the competent public administration authorities were presented to the representatives of the European Commission on the following topics: 1) Action plans for Chapters 23 and 24; 2) Fundamental rights; 3) Judiciary; 4) Judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters; 5) Fight against corruption; 6) Implementation of the Law on the Organisation and Jurisdiction of State Authorities in Combating Organised Crime, Terrorism, and Corruption; 7) Fight against serious and organised crime and corruption, in particular high-level corruption, including proactive investigations and trials, freezing and confiscation of assets acquired through crime, money laundering and terrorism financing, human trafficking, arms and drug smuggling, and the role and practice of security services in investigating serious and organised crime cases; 8) Cybercrime; 9) Law enforcement; 10) Prevention of money laundering; 11) Combating terrorism and violent extremism; 12) EU Action Plan for the Western Balkans, migration and asylum management; 13) Border management; 14) Visa policy – Follow-up to the fifth report under the visa suspension mechanism.
In accordance with its mandate, the Public Procurement Office reported in writing to the European Commission under the section “Fight against corruption” on measures to prevent corruption in sensitive areas, with a focus on public procurement, particularly regarding steps taken to reduce the number of public procurement procedures with only one submitted bid, outcomes of misdemeanor proceedings initiated by the Public Procurement Office, as well as measures undertaken in relation to the implementation of the media strategy on transparency of public procurement in the media sector.
